Probably the greatest songwriting duo of the 20th century, but that is just my opinion.
At parties camps are divided into those who have heard of Michael Flanders and Donald Swann and those who look blank.
For the blank among you, here is a summary :
Michael Flanders and Donald Swann wrote songs. Flanders (the beautiful and bearded one) wrote the words, and Swann (the Enid Blyton of english light music) wrote the music. They used to write songs for other people to sing... which they did... but not nearly enough, so they took to the stage themselves in 1956 in a show entitled At the Drop of a Hat.
This ran for years. They toured the world, including America (whose need, let's face it, is greater even than ours). Their show included such songs as "The Hippopotamus Song", "Ill Wind"(which is Mozart's 4th horn concerto with words) and a song about the British weather.
